What Happened to the Antiwar Movement?

Many have lamented the absence of an antiwar movement in this country during President Obama's tenure as Warmonger in Chief.

Well, there is one but it's pretty small and includes people that are largely ignored by the pretenders and the ruling class media.  There are plenty of people and organizations that are still very active in antiwar and anti - imperialism activities, but it's a far cry from the activities we had prior to the Iraq war in 2002/2003.

Much of that antiwar movement came from the Democrats who were more into protesting Bush than protesting the blowing up of wedding parties.  When Obama took office that became clear because any antiwar movement basically died with his Nobel Peace Prize.  Democrats believe their wars are kinder and gentler than the Republicans wars so there is no need to protest.  Bush lied about spreading democracy and helping people but the Democrats are convinced they and Obama are different.  They have to believe that or there wouldn't be this game we play between the two ruling class political parties.

Now the same thing is happening with Bernie Sanders.  It wouldn't surprise me if Bernie Sanders is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize any day now.

They're getting fooled again but they are adamant they're not.

"I want to live in a just society and I want legitimate reasons to be proud of my country - or at least to not be so fucking ashamed of it. And I want to feel that we have done absolutely everything in our power to ensure that future generations will inherit an ecologically viable world that is at peace and within which they can thrive. No more phony wars, no more trashing the planet, no more torture, no more for-profit prisons, no more trickle down bullshit, no more wealth inequality, no more tax cuts for billionaires, no more racism and no more climate change denial or do-nothingism. It's time for a change.

Don't we all know that by now?

If we are ever going to do the right thing, if we are ever going to stand up to the rich and powerful and begin to right the many terrible wrongs that persist in our nation, the time is now."

What this diarist is talking about is electing a Democrat for President in the form of Bernie Sanders.  That's what they're hoping will result in no more phony wars (newsflash, they're all phony wars).  He's saying that our best chance is to vote for another Democrat for President, right after we just got punk'd by the Democrat currently in office, Barack Obama.

He says we need to face facts.  Well, the facts have been thrown at these people time and time again that Bernie Sanders is an imperialist, a Zionist, and a military industrial complex supporter who parrots the same false narratives and lies concerning our "enemies" that the neocons and neoliberals spout.  He has flat out lied over and over about Putin and Russia, Ukraine, ISIS, Syria, , the War OF Terror, Al Qaeda, Afghanistan (where he just approved of Obama's decision to stay) and Libya, just like the rest of our ruling class politicians.

How can anyone think things would change under Sanders when he buys into the Empire's Lies about U.S. imperialism lock, stock, barrel, and drone?  That either indicates a will to ignore facts or ignorance of the facts.

Those are the facts but they don't want to hear them.  They're convinced somehow that Sanders is different.  They forget the things Obama said in 2007/2008 when he was campaigning as an anti-phony war candidate.

That's where the antiwar movement went.  It's an anti-phony war movement that refuses to face the facts that all wars are phony and U.S. imperialism won't be stopped by a 74 year old Jew from Vermont.

Sanders has no chance anyway, he won't be the next President.  So we'll see what happens to the antiwar movement after he's out of the race.

What I think is most of it has been fake or misguided in the past so there's no reason to believe that will change.  Too many confused people who won't face the facts.

The rest of us that aren't part of the ruling class political parties will have to carry on.
